We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

What is included with the office space?
On the fifth floor, the Innovation Garage will offer office space that is outfitted with desks. Additionally, internet access will be provided and if needed, a conference room is available.

Purpose of the Innovation Garage

These are prime, modern collaboration spaces for industry, academic researchers, and student experiential learning. These spaces are on the fifth floor of the ACE Engineering building at the north Oshawa campus location. The Innovation Garage is fully secured with RFID access to the main hallways, office spaces and board rooms, all controlled by the tenant. All offices are fully equipped with high-speed internet, stand-up desks, as well as all the standard office amenities. There is flexible space with preparation areas, a machine shop, offices, laboratories, conference rooms, and common work areas available to rent. Offices can be reconfigured as per the tenant’s requirements.

Students and collaborators

At the Innovation Garage, students are a key part of the collaborative and innovation process. With the resources available through the Innovation Garage, students can take their ideas and make them a reality. The Innovation Garage focuses on ensuring research and collaboration occur within our state-of-the-art facility and allows all students the opportunity to further their ideas.

Some of our collaborative partners with the Innovation Garage include QA Consultants, Smart Cone, GM, Magna, Multimatic and Project Arrow. Recently, collaboration with our partner Smart Cone allowed for the use of the Innovation Garage to come up with a high-tech health screening technology system. The research and collaboration that occurred resulted in a new form of technology allowing for an individual to stand at the Kiosk and get immediate results based on COVID-19 screening without requiring any personal information.

As well, with the advancement of Project Arrow, the Innovation Garage has allowed for research space in stage 2 of this project. Project Arrow is Canada’s first zero-emission concept vehicle. For further research and development on this concept vehicle, Project Arrow and the ACE facility have collaborated with the use of the Innovation Garage to further this idea and make it a reality. At ACE, we are always looking for new partners to collaborate with us.
